Each Sunday our goal is to share a piece of gold with you. Some small piece of information that helps you to have a better week and achieve a better outcome.

This week, I want to share with you the idea of the perfect week. Some might say, “You mean vacation?” but what I mean is how to run the week so that you intentionally get the outcomes that you want in your career and in your life. This is much more than calendar and scheduling ninjutsu… The perfect week focuses on your energy as a leader and your energy in your home.

If, as an example, you are running so hard that at the end of the day you are absolutely worn out and there is little left for the family, then you have an energy management problem. Your calendar should serve you and help you to manage your energy in the most effective way.

For example, most people are the most focused and creative in the morning. Therefore, you should plan project work, important meetings, sales presentations, etc., when you are at your best. Concurrently, most people have a slump shortly after lunch. This is not the time to plan the project that requires unique creativity, it is the time to plan a walk and talk meeting, work on email that require quick replies, work from a stand-up desk if possible, or hold a one-on-one meeting that is engaging and fun.

Near the end of the day, you might want to plan a team stand-up that is fun and energetic, so you are ending the day on a high. As you wrap up, do a brain dump, and make a list of the most important things to accomplish the next day. Head home on a high so you are feeling good about the day and don’t have 10,000 things churning in your mind that need your attention. This will help you check out for the day and even sleep better!

So many people end the day drained, and I want to challenge you to manage your day to serve everyone better in the business as well as end the day with plenty of gas in the tank to be your best for your family!
