Each Sunday our goal is to share a piece of gold with you. Some small piece of information that helps you to have a better week and achieve a better outcome.
One of the foundational components to Adapt or Die is understanding that almost all problems in business have already been solved by someone else. For our team, learning from other ninjas is the foundation to much of what we have been able to accomplish.
As we grew and learned more about improving our business, benchmarking provided us with a true north; a way to focus our time, investments, and energy in the correct areas to ensure we achieve better results.
One of the big lessons we learned was knowing and understanding financials. Getting clarity on these measurements was critical to understand the right levers to pull in order to change the outcomes.
However, it is the traits that lead to financial results that have had the biggest impact. Knowing your target goal is great, but knowing the behaviors, processes, training activities, standards, and DWM (Daily, Weekly, Monthly) tasks that lead to that target is what has truly resulted in the outcomes that we are proud of.
For any business to truly be successful, it must create value for its clients, team, and owners. When the DWM’s and actions taken are outlined for the entire organization, teamwork improves, downstream/handoffs improve, culture improves, quality improves, financials improve, and the value that can be provided to all involved improves.
I would encourage you to invest the time, money, and energy to understand the traits necessary to achieve best-in-class results. From selling your products, to delivery, to documentation, to invoicing, and collections, there are activities associated with each area of the business where only the top 25% of companies do well. When you can learn from those specialists who rank highest, your business will be better.
In technology, we have been fortunate to work with an awesome organization that helps with this process of peer-to-peer learning. Most industries have a few groups like this. I would encourage you to find them, be picky, and lean into the activities that produce the results you are looking for.
Why create a new blueprint when one has already been produced for you? I can attest that our time-to-success was improved by years because of the traits we’ve learned through measuring ourselves against the best of the best.
The goal of AoD is to build better leaders who run better companies and change the world. Part of getting the right traits in the business means getting the right cadence created for your company. Understanding the schedule of meetings and communication helps to ensure that your entire organization is on the same page.
