Each Sunday, our goal is to share a piece of gold with you. Some small piece of information that helps you to have a better week and achieve a better outcome.

Leadership can take on many forms throughout a year, a month, or even a day. Sometimes it is a gift, sometimes it is a burden, sometimes it is exhilarating, and sometimes it is overwhelming.

However, if we are in a role of leadership, we have been entrusted with something special that we have to work hard to earn, each and every day. Too often, we get busy focusing on the work, the outcomes, the goals, or the fires and forget that our first priority must be to serve those we lead.

Sometimes that does require that we be intentional to focus on self-care, work that others need from us, or making time to achieve specific objectives. However, when we do these things, we owe it those we lead to communicate and check in to ensure they are not put in a bad position because of our decisions and focus.

It only takes a few moments to check in and ask, “Hey team, I need to focus on a few things this afternoon to ensure the project is completed on time. Is there anything you need before I dive in and focus for a few hours?”

In chapter five of Adapt or Die, I share, “Leaders are servants who are put in place to help the organization solve problems, communicate, lift people up, see the vision, and give people the guidance necessary for good teamwork and positive attitudes.”

When we focus on being worthy of the responsibility of leadership, the rest will work itself out. Exemplifying the skill of giving before we receive helps everyone on your serve to understand how to prioritize and be the servant leader that is required for a healthy team.

The goal of Adapt or Die is to build better leaders who run better companies and change the world. Better leaders doesn’t just mean in the office, but at home too.
